BRIDGE transformed a neglected historic landmark into an award-winning campus with affordable homes for seniors and families.

In the heart of Oakland, CA, BRIDGE Housing rehabilitated an underutilized historic landmark to create 84 affordable apartments for seniors. In a second phase, BRIDGE created 62 affordable family apartments, forming a unique multigenerational campus. This video walks viewers through the complex transformation and “labor of love” that took seven years and 21 sources of financing. The St. Joseph’s campus, which received a ULI Global Award for Excellence, is a unique example of how BRIDGE’s adaptive reuse, historic renovation and new construction preserved an important historic landmark and strengthened the community with permanently affordable homes for families and seniors.
