The Carquinez

Back to list

In 1990, BRIDGE acquired and rehabilitated this historic downtown Richmond hotel, which had been vacant for over a decade. BRIDGE obtained landmark status for the 1925 building and used historic and low-income tax credits along with State loan funds to reduce rents for very-low-income seniors. From 2009-2011, BRIDGE undertook a substantial rehab of The Carquinez, including seismic retrofit work, apartment upgrades and a new garden. The Carquinez offers 36 one-bedroom apartments for seniors, with commercial space and community services on the ground floor. The property is adjacent to Richmond City Center, also developed by BRIDGE, which includes 34 townhomes and 64 family apartments, as well as a park, a shopping center and a veterans’ memorial.
